Thistledew was established in 1955 as a Correctional Facility. Initially, it was designed as a work camp for young offenders. Today Thistledew Camp is a Minnesota Department of Corrections Juvenile Facility serving boys thirteen to seventeen years of age. The camp accepts referrals from all counties in Minnesota and works with adjudicated youth and youth-at-risk. Beginning in 2006 Thistledew Camp will be recognized as MCF-TOGO, and our programming will be listed as Thistledew.

Thistledew is proud to be part of the Minnesota Department of Corrections. We have recently celebrated 50 years of service and we will continue to provide outstanding programming. Besides changing our name we have also added some programming that we believe and have been told our communities need, including our Residential Substance Abuse Programming for Boys. We have added to the number of groups our 21 Day Therapeutic Wilderness Program for Girls runs. We have also started a CIP for Women specially.

Thistledew is nestled in a scenic part of Minnesota, giving our clients the opportunity to grow and develop as people, while we provide the tools they need to move forward.

Purpose:

Our purpose is to motivate and empower people to make positive changes in their lives.

Guiding Principles:

  1. I recognize that our physical and emotional safety must always come first.
  2. I will have an empathetic, respectful, and sincere attitude toward all individuals.
  3. I will be:
-- Honest with ourselves and others
-- Open to other points of view
-- Willing to step outside of our comfort zone
  4. I believe that recognizing success is more effective than pointing out failure.
  5. I believe that individuals are responsible for their own actions.
